What is and is not counted
Figures are crimes reported to SAPS and recorded at the police station for each precinct. Unreported crime is not counted. Counts are affected by precinct size, population and reporting. Nothing on this site is a prediction of risk for any property.
Why precinct rates can mislead
Rates per 1,000 residents use Census 2022 resident counts. Resident counts exclude commuters, visitors and businesses, so rates can overstate risk in busy or commercial precincts. Where a precinct has few residents compared with visitors and businesses, no rate is shown.
